The WaPo and the LA Times are among sources reporting on the coming overhaul of the immigration detention system in the US.

The Obama administration announced plans Thursday to overhaul the nation's much-criticized immigration detention system by strengthening federal oversight and centralizing a 32,000-bed system, officials said. The goal in three to five years is to redesign and begin rebuilding a system that houses immigration violators in fewer locations, closer to major cities with access to courts…

Since 2002 the number of immigrants detained each year has more than doubled – from just over 200,000 to about 440,000. Annie Sovcik of the Advocacy Counsel for Human Rights First's Refugee Protection Program published a editorial on the proposed reform recently in the H Post.
