I don't often read the editorial page of USA Today, but they recently had an insightful commentary on the problems that face immigration reform in Congress. They list five specific problems.
The problems are simple. Too many of the members of Congress have inflexible, all-or-nothing positions. Too much of the debate is, well, almost flamable. Lots of name calling and moral arrogance on both sides. And special interests play too much of a role in the debate.
The USA Today commentary was the first really insightful analysis of the issue I've seen in a while. It's worth reading if you're interested in immigration reform.
