The blog 2point6billion is reporting that India's visa rules are forcing engineers from China to return home and replace their business visas with work visas. The process is causing delays in power projects designed to produce 4,000 megawatts of electricity. And India's various government agencies are looking for a solution.
“The Ministry of Power has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to expedite issuing of employment visas to the Chinese engineers so that plants can be completed on time,” junior power minister Bharatsinh Solanki told lawmakers in a letter reported The Economic Times. “These projects are in advanced stages of commissioning and urgently required the services of Chinese engineers for the commissioning activities.”
Last year India issued over 58,000 business visas to Chinese nationals.
