First it was Australia, then Britain and now it is South Africa which is looking to tighten its immigration laws to prevent the continuous influx of foreign nationals. South Africa has emerged as one of the attractive destination for illegal immigrants especially from neighboring countries such as Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Around three million Zimbabwean refugees live in South Africa due to economic and political problems back home.
The country is planning to make changes to its migration policy which currently has certain loopholes and is being exploited by the migrants. South Africa feels that influx of migrants has led to an increase in crime rate. It is also affecting the job market out there as employers prefer to hire migrants as they are willing to work on lesser salary as compared to inhabitants hence leaving them jobless.
If migration is affecting the country then it definitely makes sense to make changes to it for the benefit of its citizens.
