New Zealand is refocusing its visa program to increase the number of skilled migrants entering the country.
The government aims to decrease new migrants for its residence program from 45,000 to 50,000 from the 47,000 to 52,000 authorized last year. But greater priority will be given to skilled workers and the government is encouraging employers to use the country's temporary migrant visas to bring to New Zealand skills in short supply due to the unavailability of qualified New Zealanders.
