South Africa Proposes Tax Increase for Expatriates
Filed in archive Africa on October 1, 2007
Proposed amendments to South African income tax laws will increase taxes on expatriate workers on assignment in that country.
The tax change focuses on housing provided to expatriates. Currently, the value of such housing is not taxed as income to the employee. The proposed amendment would exclude the benefit to expatriates, unless the South African assignment is for less than 183 days.
