The United States moved one step closer to increasing the border fence with Mexico.
At www.borderfencenepa.com, the government shows maps where the border fence will extend in the Rio Grande Valley. Rather than a continuous fence, the plan is to erect fence segments only - apparently with open gaps in between. The fence design requires the fence be at least 16 feet high and 3 - 6 feet below ground. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2008.
See Proposed border fence maps, plans, submitted to Federal Register, Rio Grande Guardian, September 24, 2007, for more information.
