In a poll published last week by the Pew Research Center, the general public around the world were reported in favor of tougher immigration laws.
The only exceptions are South Korea, the Palestinian autonomous areas, and Japan. Italians were the highest, at 87% against immigration. The research found general support for economic globalization, with most people endorsing free trade, multinational corporations and free markets. But concerns remain about inequality, threats to the culture and the environment - including threats posed by immigration.
