Posted: December 22nd, 2008 | Author: admin | Filed under: Africa | No Comments »The Agence France Press is among a number of news sources reporting on the conviction of Rwanda's ex-army colonel Theoneste Bagosora on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) also acquitted Bagosora, an ethnic Hutu, on the charge of conspiring to commit genocide. Bagosora is widely viewed as having planned the attacks that killed 800,000 ethnic Tutsi (along with Hutu moderates) in Rwanda over a ten month period of time, according to the Huffington Post. But the available evidence wasn't sufficient in the eyes of the court to convict him of conspiracy.
Bagosora has been sentenced to serve life in prison on the genocide and war crimes charges. He is the highest ranking official to be sentenced
