In response to a request from the us census Bureau that immigration enforcement actions be curtailed during the 2010 census count, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency says no.
The US census is used for many important purposes, so the government is understandably interested in completing it accurately. Census officials reported worry that they will get a less accurate count if there are a large group of people fearful and, therefore, less likely to cooperate with census workers. During the 2000 census, the INS did not conduct large raids for this reason. But this time around, the government is making no such promise.
