The ILW pointed out today what a blow the death of Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) is to the future of immigration reform in Congress.
Kennedy, known as the Lion of the Senate, left a legacy in many areas of public policy. Almost from the beginning of his tenure, immigration was one of his passions. He was the sponsor of the 1965 Immigration Act which did away with an antiquated quota system that largely favored Western Europeans. And he helped to craft every major piece of immigration legislation over the last forty years.
